Designers flex their creativity in Palm Beach this spring.

This spring I attended the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse in Palm Beach. This is an annual event that brings together some of the top designers and decorators in the world and benefits the Boys & Girls Club of America. Each year the event is held in a stunning Palm Beach mansion and highlights the latest trends in interior design and decor. I’ve had my eye on this event for a few years, so when the hubs announced he wasn’t able to get away for spring break, I knew exactly where I was headed. Give me the opportunity to get inspired with beautiful design and a little time at the beach and I’m one happy girl.

So, what are my biggest take aways?  For starters, this was not a minimalistic approach to design. Designers went all in with layers upon layers of details. From the wall treatments and moldings to the accessories that appeared to be carefully collected over a decade, no detail was spared. This year was all about bold, maximalist design.

livable luxury always wins

With a salon-style grandeur, the great room says, “Welcome to Palm Beach.” The patinated walls and antiques paired with the casual coastal, rattan furniture and family-friendly fabrics, exude that livable luxury that we at Tangela Brown Interiors make our priority. This cheerful space is designed around people, not the TV. (There is another space for that.) I could see this space perfect for large family gathering or a great night of conversation while mingling with friends. Of course, you could just as easily grab a book, prop your feet up on the ottoman and take in the view.

KICK BACK & STAY A WHILE

One of my favorite spaces was the welcome bar designed by Errez Design. It is said to be inspired by Henry Flagler’s contributions to the development of luxury travel in South Florida. The home is on North Flagler’s Drive after all. When I walked into the welcome bar, my mind immediately escaped from the rest of the world. My mood instantly shifted into a relaxed state and the only thing that was missing was a cocktail in my hand. Interestingly, this space adjoins two guest rooms. Um, your cousin Eddie may never go home.

From the bold colors of one designer to the layering techniques by another, this showhouse had me beaming with inspiration. Ultimately my biggest takeaway was the importance of purpose. Purpose for every space. No, we don’t all have the space or need to create a welcome bar adjoining our guestrooms, but we can have intention when designing every space in our home. Funny thing is, whether you have intention or not, your space impacts how you and others feel when there.

So, what’s the purpose of your spaces? Did you design each room in your home with intention or did it just kind of happen? Does it evoke the mood you hoped for? No? Let’s chat.
